Thanks for Supporting the Toys for Tots Drive at Our Holiday Open Mic!

By Terri Allen

DC Cabaret Network Board of Directors, and organizer/coordinator of our monthly open mics:

Open Mics are always a fun time.  They give our members the opportunity to sing, experiment with new music and also work with material they are more familiar with.  It is always a joy to listen to the variety of singers and material that is presented.  And it is almost impossible to come to an Open Mic without asking a singer – “who wrote that song?”

Special Thanks to Our Hosts
The Network’s December Open Mic has become a great annual event, thanks to Michael Miyazaki and Ron Squeri who lead the Open Mic with their own unique blend of holiday spirit.

Great Participation in Toys for Tots Event
For the last few years, the DC Cabaret Network has  participated in Toys for Tots sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps at the Dec. Open Mic.  This year, once again, members of the Network rallied and brought all kinds of wonderful presents (tea sets, jewelry, Barbi dolls and even stuffed animals!)  Although the Marines were not able to pick up the toys at our event, the toys were delivered to a fire station in the area also sponsoring a Toys for Tots fundraiser.  Thanks to the DC Cabaret Network members for once again supporting this cause and making our December Open Mic a great event!

Top 10 Tips When Creating a Cabaret Show

DC Cabaret Network member Michael Miyazaki shares his thoughts on this subject in the Working Singers’ Newsletter for January 2010. Tip of the Blog Hat to Michael Griep, who produces the newsletter, for including this great information.

December Open Mic: It’s a Holiday Celebration — Monday, December 7th!

The DC Cabaret Network December Open Mic has become a joyous holiday tradition, hosted by our beloved members Ron Squeri and Michael Miyazaki.  We will enjoy the festivities Monday, December 7, 2009, at the Warehouse Theatre.

Again this year we are pleased to support Toys for Tots, which is facilitated by the United States Marine Corps.  A discounted donation will be taken with a donation of a toy for Toys for Tots.  We have received word that gifts specifically geared towards teenagers would be particularly appreciated.

We are so lucky to have Mary Sugar at the piano.  What a wonderful night it will be and we hope to see you there!!

Mary Sugar

Sign-up at 7:30pm, start singing at 8pm.   Come sing at the Warehouse Theater!  Admission is a suggested donation for the pianist and to cover the rental fee: $15 for non-members, $12 for paid up members of the DC Cabaret Network.    The Warehouse Theater is located at 1021 7th Street, NW, across from the DC Convention Center.

Everyone is welcome. Our Open Mic Nights are a great opportunity to try out new stuff, take out an old friend, or just hone your skills in a friendly and supportive environment.   Visit www.warehousetheater.com for directions and more info about the space.    See you there!
