With summer almost officially upon us, the DC Cabaret Network celebrated the oncoming solstice with its June Open Mic at The Black Squirrel.  And what a hot time it was!  With Alex Tang at the piano, Board Treasurer Steven Cupo hosting, Jeff Tucker on sound and Ana behind the bar, everyone who attended agreed it was one of our most lively and enjoyable Open Mics.

All took pleasure in a wide variety of songs and stylists, including some lovely standards, a rare song from a never-realized musical, a bawdy drinking song usually sung by a man but interpreted by our own Marcia Kass, distinctly Euro-centric melodies and, of course, Michael Miyazaki doing a riff on Caitlyn “Bruce” Jenner.  And that was just SOME of what was meted out that evening.  One participant even got out of her sick-bed to sing a tune … sans music at that!  (Thanks for that mononucleosis-laced smooch, Heidi … hmmm…)  At least she came with her own rubbing alcohol soaked rag to wash down the microphone!  One of the real highlights, though, was when mother and daughter Debra Davidson and Carrie Wilson sang a duet of “For Good” from “Wicked”.  It really was a special moment that heightened the joy of being there that night.

What a lucky group we were!  See you all in July.
