“OLD” AND NEW FACES AT THE MAY OPEN MIC

Monday evening, May 11, saw the DC Cabaret Network gang gathered once again at the Black Squirrel on 18th Street.  It was a night full of DCCN regulars along with many “new” faces.  Starting with Liz being replaced by Rob at the bar making everyone feel welcome and comfortable.  The event was hosted per usual by DCCN’s Treasurer of the Board, Steven Cupo.  However, the group welcomed a “new” face at the piano in the guise of Cory Davis who showed everyone his remarkable talents along with his poise and easy-going nature.  The DCCN hopes to be able to call on his services once again; such a nice fella!
It was a treat to have so many friends invited in by our regulars, and even our not-so regulars.  Some took the stage and offered up their vocal stylings, while a few sat back and enjoyed the music.  Steven tried to get a couple of new folks to try pole dancing instead, but that didn’t seem to have any real impetus.
In the second half, one of our singers, Jeanne Wolf, sang Eva Cassidy’s version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” which led to a spontaneous discussion about Eva Cassidy, song interpretation and her imprint on local DC Cabaret through her early appearances here.  It was especially interesting to learn that she was related through marriage to one of DCCN’s long-time members, Marcia Kass.
A shout out goes to Jeff Tucker of the Art of Music who ran our audio, as well as setting up and breaking down all the equipment.  Thank you again, Jeff, for all your help and everything you do for the DC Cabaret Network.
I know it may sound like a cliché, but a great time WAS had by all!  Please come join us in June.
